Visita Iglesia
For the past four years, we have been visiting fourteen churches every Maundy Thursday.

Actually, I don’t feel too holy during holy week. Well, at least this year, not as much as I used to. I don’t know. It’s not that I’ve lost faith, because, withstanding popular culture nowadays, I actually think I’m more sensitive to His presence now than I ever was. It’s just that holy week nowadays don’t feel as spiritual anymore, not when the focus has gone from spiritual retreat to holiday retreats. I don’t know. I guess I don’t want to confine my holy week to the actual Christian community holy week. Holy week for me can be during any other week in the year, however frequent I want/get to experience it. In so saying, our visita iglesia today wasn’t too spiritual for me. I felt like, it was more of an excursion. A tour of different churches in Metro Manila. I feel guilty for mindlessly reciting the rosary.

At last! Someone who feels exactly how I feel about Holy Week this past few years. When I was a young girl during the late 70’s, at the onset of Holy Monday, everything starts to slow down and towards Maundy Thursday, everything is silent already. Nothing at all on TV (there was no cable pa then), nothing on the radio, not a restaurant open, not even a whisper in the streets. Only the churches were open. Times have changed so much. My family and I visited 7 churches last Maundy Thrusday: Baclaran, Manila Cathedral, San Agustin, Malate Cathedral, Sta Cruz and Quiapo church. Everywhere you looked, people were EATING inside fastfood outlets like Shakey’s and Chowking. Parang hindi Holy Week…Grabe. By the way, I like your site. Found myself in it via Dinsworld. Dindin’s my Badminton friend. Goodluck with school.
